Wheel balancing and wheel alignment are two totally different things, but many people often get them confused. Balancing allows the tires and wheels to spin without causing any vibrations. Symptoms of a wheel that is out of balance are:
Out-of-balance tires will cause a car to vibrate at certain speeds, usually around 45 mph and up. A tire is out of balance when one section of the tire is heavier than the others. One ounce of imbalance on a front tire is enough to cause a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel at about 60 mph. To balance a wheel, the technician will mount it on a balancing machine which spins the wheel to locate the heavier part. He will then compensate for the heavy part by attaching a weight on the opposite side. Many people are pleasantly surprised at how smooth their car drives after balancing all four wheels.

Why the GSP9700?
Hunter's GSP9700 is both a balancer and a vibration control system. It is also a Road Force Measurement analyzer for passenger car and light truck tire/wheel assemblies.
Each tire/wheel assembly is tested for the amount of dynamic/static imbalance and Road Force. The GSP9700 simulates a "road test", with a unique "load roller" which applies up to 1400 lbs of force against the rotating assembly. The roller measures the loaded runout of the assembly (deflection while under load) and automatically recommends corrections when needed. The GSP9700's technology eliminates many of the time consuming, subjective and often non-productive manual measurements previously used to diagnose and repair ride disturbance concerns.
